I have a few cans of tuna and some bagels in my cupboard (and at this point, not a heck of a lot more!)
Do you think that’s close enough to five loaves and two fish?
There are also a few remaining bottles of water in my fridge.
Good material for wine making?
Because, the thing is,
I need a miracle.
A five loaves and two fish, water to wine type miracle.
I have little and I need a big result.
I don’t have a crowd of 5,000 to feed, but I have a house of 4,000 square feet to fill.
I don’t need wine for a wedding, but I might need it for celebration after I’m done with this task. 🙂
My next staging job is a very large home that is vacant, with the exception of a couple of beds, two tables and a couch.
This grand house, at its appropriate price point, needs to be a show stopper.
But how?
How do I beautify the rooms that now sit empty and furniture-free? Countless blank walls staring back at me?
I am a one-gal operation at this point and don’t have the resources or budget of a big company with a huge warehouse of furniture to fill this place.
I just found out that one of my former clients wants to buy all of the pieces I used in her home. Which is great, except that this means my current inventory takes a hit.
Vacant house. Little time. Small budget. Reduced inventory.
Impossible.
Or is it?
For me, yes.
But for God, it is the perfect set up for another of His gracious miracles.
At this point, I don’t know exactly what that looks like.
But I believe with everything in me that the Jesus I love is still in the business of taking little and making much. Increasing my creativity. Giving me new ideas. Helping me find great deals and making the very best use of the resources I already have.
Or maybe He has something even more wonderful in mind?!
The fear of failure in the past would have made me walk away from this type of job. The odds are stacked against me, to say the least.
But I am remembering a young boy standing in front of a giant and taking him down with a single stone.
God propelled that rock to just the right place on Goliath’s forehead to do what needed to be done.
All David had to do was show up, face what was in front of him and put that stone in his sling shot.
Obedience. Faith.
This means giving God my little rock of ability. Handing over my five loaves and two fish of creativity. Offering Him the water of my trust.
And then watching as He does His thing.
That amazing thing that leaves me speechless, knowing that my tiny has blossomed into His tremendous.
I feel smaller than 5’2″ today with a huge task taunting me.
It’s not world peace, but because He loves me, Jesus thinks it’s important.
So, God, here is my rock, my bagel, my bottled water.
Can’t wait to see what YOU do!
— What’s in your “pantry”, your “fridge”, your “hand”?
— What little do you have that you could trust God to do grand things?
— Can you pray big with tiny faith for things you can’t imagine?
Luke 17:5-6 – The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!” 6And the Lord said, “If you had faith like a mustard seed, you would say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and be planted in the sea’; and it would obey you.”
Psalm 77:14 – You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.
John 2:1-11 – Story of Jesus Turning Water to Wine
1 Samuel 17 – Story of David and Goliath
John 6:1-14 – Story of The Five Loaves and Two Fish
Have you considered renting the bigger pieces? (You aren’t stuck with furniture that you might not use again, don’t have to store it and you can add the cost to what you charge for the job. They probably deliver, too.)A local furniture store might even be willing to make a deal with you if you could put a small discrete sign up telling which pieces are from their store. Just a thought. Hi Aunt Marcia!
I am getting to the point where that is exactly what I’m going to have to do. When you’re emptying your own house to stage someone else’s, you know it’s time to do just that! The realtors I’m working for and I are trying to figure all of this out while the homes just keep coming in. I love having the inventory of decor pieces in the convenience of my own “studio”, but furniture is definitely going to become a problem!
Love you and hugs to Uncle Phil, too!
