Loose change.

All those coins.

For the most part, we see loose change as a royal pain. So we throw it in a jar and forget about it.imageIt’s out of the way and we don’t have to look at it or feel its weight in our pockets.

But if we’re smart, we see that with every load of laundry or cleaning out of a purse, the change we collect carries value.  And if we put it in that jar understanding that when we combine it with the other coins there it increases that value, then we’re on to something.

What about the “loose change” of our lives? Those changes in our lives that we view as irritating or a nuisance.  Can they increase in value in the “jar” of our experiences?

This is what I know.  That our God is creative and doesn’t like stagnation.  His desire for us is that we grow in every capacity of our lives.  Change does that.  It challenges us to step out of our status quo and flex a few muscles we didn’t know existed before.  It causes our hearts and minds to be stretched and to bend around new ways of thinking and believing.  “Loose change” in our lives, when combined with the other change of the past, has the ability to increase our potential to impact our world.

The random “loose change” of our lives     has value. Past change serves the purpose of supporting and preparing for present and future change.  Imagine all the jingle and shine of the coins of experience that shape and grow us! This gives meaning to each penny of challenge and each nickel of  discomfort.

Will we view the loose change of our lives as worthless pain or valuable purpose?

James 1:1-4- Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish it’s work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

Romans 8:28 – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
