I used to really like Sharpies. A lot.
But that was before I wrote the word “bold” on 400 river rocks for church tomorrow.
We’re studying David – A Man After God’s Own Heart – and tomorrow’s theme is a Bold Heart.
As I spent hours cleaning and writing on these stones, so many analogies came to mind. For David, it took boldness to face that giant and pick up those rocks, the very first of which took that giant down. David stepped out in faith and God propelled the stone to give it the power to kill an enemy.
We have giants, too. Things in our lives that mock us, that frighten us, that make us want to turn and run the other way. But we can face that giant with a rock in our hand and trust that God will bless our courage and faith to defeat our fears. Rocks are little. But we’re told that it only takes faith the size of a mustard seed to see great things happen. (Luke 17:6 – “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.” Matthew 17:20 – Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”)
I can hardly wait to hear what Matt has to share with us tomorrow – more insights about David and his heart. I want a heart like David – a heart after God’s own.
At the end of my “art project” today, I found two heart shaped rocks. How perfect is this????
