When grace looks like ashes
Your mercy, the fire
That burns through the rubble
To my deepest desire
When sparks dance wildly
In the heat of the flame
Your love is the crackling
That calls out my name.
The vapor around me
Brings tears to my eyes
Your Spirit’s smoke signal
Interprets my cries.
Your voice came to Moses
In a bush that burned bright
Unconsumed by the fire
That brought new insight.
Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego
Stood bound in the burn of the flame
Untouched, unharmed by the fire
Safe in the presence of Your Name.
When grace looks like ashes
Your mercy, the fire
May Your love fan my passion
With a flame that burns higher.
Isaiah 43:2 – When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.
Exodus 3:2-3 – There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.”
Daniel 3:21, 26-27 – So these men, wearing their robes, trousers, turbans and other clothes, were bound and thrown into the blazing furnace….So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.
