This morning I drove on a road new to me. It was called Foothill Road. The name was obvious because of the location – right at the base of some gorgeous hills in Pleasanton. From where the road is positioned, when you look up all you see is beauty. The trees, the landscape, the lovely homes. There is a cross street called Serenity. So aptly named. The drive was gorgeous.
As I was driving and taking in the scenery, I found myself still processing what happened yesterday. (See yesterday’s post.) It was as if I was looking through a kaleidoscope and the end was rotated slightly to give me a little different view. New, beautiful colors that I had never seen before. A glimpse of heaven. A taste of eternity. A whiff of the reality of a dimension so much greater than what we experience on a daily basis on this earth.
I thought back to the “sighings” of the girl I encountered yesterday. They were intimate sounds that expressed her love for Jesus. But I realized that they also expressed to me God’s “mmmmmmmm’s” in response to the melodies and harmonies of praise that were happening in that room. As if I could hear Him breathing in the fragrance of the worship and releasing the breath of His pleasure and satisfaction. He truly was “inhabiting our praise”.
I looked again at the hills as I drove. The view was so beautiful as I looked up. I kept my eyes on the road ahead of me, but I also kept my peripheral vision alert and aware that there was something greater, something more beautiful and meaningful that runs alongside the road.
It made me think of Calvary Hill. That hill where Jesus gave us His life. On this road of life, THAT is the hill that I need to always keep in my line of vision. THAT is where the true beauty lies. THAT is where any meaning for this earthly existence comes from. THAT is where my true home sits. And as I keep attentive with my “eyes to the hills”, my focus for the road ahead becomes clearer and the path before me opens up and invites me to walk along it.
I hope my kaleidoscope keeps turning ever so slightly to keep my vision fresh and my wonder “new every morning”. May my eyes always be ready to see those colorful glimpses of heaven….
