I really wish I could have met A. A. Milne. I think we could have been good friends.
I was looking up Winnie The Pooh quotes this morning. I was looking up one in particular. I never found it on the site I was looking at, but I found a plethora of others that captured my heart and made me realize that A. A. Milne was a genius and had a beautiful grasp on things of the heart.
I found myself crying at the simplicity with which his characters expressed profound truth. Quote after quote that made me smile and tear up at the same time. This man wrote “children’s books” and used childlike characters to illustrate things that we need to remember as adults. I’m sure his hope was that these stories would be read by parents to their children so that both could glean some simple wisdom from the beloved characters.
The quote I chose today (there were so many I loved that it was hard to pick one) was this:
Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. “Pooh?” he whispered.
“Yes, Piglet?”
“Nothing,” said Piglet, taking Pooh’s hand. “I just wanted to be sure of you.”
Isn’t that precious? Piglet loved Pooh so much that just knowing he was there was enough sometimes.
Of course he loved conversations with his best friend. Of course he loved doing things with him. He loved hearing his voice and bending his ear. But sometimes just being together was all that needed to happen to reassure his little heart.
I tried putting my name in place of Piglet’s and Jesus’ name in place of Pooh’s. I liked it. It looked like this.
Jana sidled up to Jesus from behind. “Jesus?” she whispered.
“Yes, Jana?”
“Nothing,” said Jana, taking Jesus’ hand. “I just wanted to be sure of You.”
Just being in HIs presence. Soaking up the reality of the security I have in Him. Savoring the richness of the fact that He will “never leave me or forsake me” in this crazy, constantly changing world. I will never run out of things to say to Him. I will never tire of listening to what He has to share with me. But sometimes I just want to “be” with Him. No words. No agenda. Just enjoying who He is.
Go and google Winnie The Pooh quotes. You’ll be mesmerized and moved. And maybe Jesus will use a cute little stuffed bear to tell you about His love today…
Isaiah 41:2-3 – When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…
Psalm 23:4 – Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
Hebrews 3:5-6 –
“Never will I leave you;
never will I forsake you.”[
So we say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?”
