The weather here in Colorado has changed from summer to winter overnight.  Two days ago it was 85 degrees.  This morning we woke up to our first scattering of snow.  Two days ago I went out in the early morning, barefoot, to take the dogs out.  I tried to do the same thing this morning and was greeted immediately with such freezing cement on my back porch, that I had to run back in to bring my aching tootsies back to life.

Some of us like change.  Others of us hate it.  Change is scary for some people, while others thrive on it.

But I think all of us can agree that we don’t want change in our sense of security.  We all want to know that everything is going to be okay.  For ourselves, for our children, for our friends and loved ones.

Here’s the good news.  God NEVER changes.  His ways and methods change, but His character, who He is, His love for us never, ever changes.

His POWER – never changes.

His OMNISCIENCE – never changes.

His JUSTICE – never changes.

His PROMISES – never change.

His GOODNESS – never changes.

His GRACE and MERCY – never change.

His PRESENCE – never changes.

This list could go on forever.  The God who knows and loves and protects us NEVER changes.  The God who promises never to leave us or forsake us, NEVER changes.  The God who fights for us, who sent His own Son to live and die for us, NEVER changes.

If I base my sense of security on my circumstances or even on other people, I will walk around on eggshells waiting for the next shift and change to happen that could cause it all to fall apart.  But if my security is in an unchanging, forever consistent God who loves me more than I can possibly understand, if I know that He holds me and my family and my friends and my future in His hands, then the shifting and changing of my circumstances though difficult, will not shake me.

Check out the story of the two men who had different foundations for the houses that they built. Matthew 7:24-27.  One built on constantly changing and shifting sand and the other on solid, immovable rock.  Whose house do you think stayed standing through the storms of life?  Yeah…

I hear that after a cold weekend here, we are supposed to be back in the 70’s next week.  Go figure.  The saying goes, if you don’t like the weather in Colorado, wait five minutes.  Kind of like life.

Fortunately for us, we don’t have to depend on what the “weather” of life brings us.  We can know the One who created the sun and calms the storms.  And He never, ever changes…

Malachi 3:6
For I am the Lord, I do not change.

Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Matthew 24:35

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
