Chondromalacia Patella – the softening and breakdown of the tissue (cartilage) that lines the underside of the kneecap (patella). In other words? I am weak in the knees.
After all of the testing and x-rays of my joints, this is the best they could come up with? That’s just lame. Pun totally intended.
With prior fears of rheumatoid arthritis and lupus as possible diagnoses I should be grateful. And I am. But somehow I’m also a little embarrassed that all the pain I’ve been experiencing in my hips and thighs is coming from something as simple and benign as being “weak in the knees”. Some physical therapy and a few changes to the work out routine and things should start to improve. My knee caps should learn how to stay in place instead of twisting and turning in the wrong directions.
Thanks to those of you who asked about the tests. There is no longer any KNEEd for concern…
You’re right. I should go…
welcome to the club Jana…that what I had and it had actually worn completely through the lining…bone on bone. That was the year of major surgeries on my knees ande 22 weeks in casts and on crutches!
Seriously? I totally remember when you went through all that! Did it affect your hips, too? That’s where most of my pain is, but she didn’t x-ray there because she didn’t want to expose me to all that radiation. I don’t know if my hips are compensating for my knees or if they have their own issue…getting old…fun!
All my pain was in my knees…I was about 32 at the time (wow…that was a loooonnnggg time ago!!!) I do know that when we compensate for pain in one area..another area is affected. Hope you get some relief soon!
Thanks, Jana, for the latest on your “kneeds”. Nama and I have been earnestly praying for you and are thankful that a bit of adjustment in your routine exercise procedures will be of great help. You’re the greatest and we love you deeply.
Papa
Yes – so good to hear you are ok!
Delete that last one, please. My keyboard has gone nuts.
RA is no fun at all, so what a relief to hear that’s not what’s causing your knee & hip pain. Good luck with the PT. A good physical therapist will watch you do your stretches & exercises to make sure you’re using proper form. Some therapists get bored and wander away to do paperwork instead of watching you. It’s better to have someone who will make sure you’re doing things correctly. Best of luck.
