Last night something beautiful happened.

That something beautiful involved three lovely young women.

I don’t know if anyone else at our bbq last night had the same perspective, but I had the privilege of watching something wonderfully simple, yet incredibly profound, take place.

We decided to invite some of our neighbors over for a bbq last night – the three families who are welcoming new babies into their lives.  I expected to do it to give them a break from cooking for a night and to pamper them for a few hours (and get my hands on some beautiful babies!)  But there was a lot more that happened that I didn’t expect…

A year ago none of these women knew each other.  And now they are experiencing the awe of bringing new life into the world together as not only neighbors, but as friends.  One of them just gave birth to her second son.  Another just gave birth to her first daughter.  And the third is awaiting a scheduled c-section of her first daughter next week.

The conversation bounced around between them from swollen ankles to sleepless nights to no time to shave both legs in the shower.  But no matter wherever the conversation went, it always landed back on the indescribable love between a parent and child. It can’t be described or contained.  It will never be able to explained or computed.  Its immensity is too great and its depth is too cavernous for words or even thoughts to capture.

The new dad-to-be kept asking the question, “What happens to you, to your heart, when that baby makes its first appearance?”  He was both intrigued and anxious to experience it himself.  But all that any of us who are parents could say to him was that it was a love like no other.

It got me to thinking about the love of God, OUR Father, for us.  It defies description or explanation.  It is constant and unconditional.  It is deeper and stronger  and more intense than any love we have ever experienced.  It truly is a “love like no other.”  It doesn’t require our love but longs for it.  It’s not deserved, but innately given.

Three beautiful little mama’s refreshed my miniscule  understanding of an infinite and undending Father’s love.  Thanks, girls 🙂

P.S.  I love you and your babies and am so excited to be the “grandma” in this neighborhood!

Jeremiah 31:3 – I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.

Ephesians 3:18 -19 – And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully.

Let's stay connected!

I promise to send some encouragement your way, and a bit of hope for the soul...
