I have been underground all weekend. Literally.
Remember the “girl cave” I mentioned? Well, I did it! Two solid days all to myself to create a room virtually out of nothing. I was in a state of euphoria!
So here’s what I started with:
Pathetic, huh?
So, I decided to transform part of our unfinished basement to become a place to write, create and just be.
But a girl cave needs a separating wall, right? What to do, what to do…
And then it came to me!
I took an antique screen door, an old gate, a window pane, a shutter and another rustic door and had the perfectlength of wall! I set them on the ground so they wouldn’t be so heavy hanging, and then secured them to the beams of the ceiling to keep them upright! I was so excited that it worked. (Note the two girl pictures that I found out the Goodwill to add a little female flavor!)
But this is just the outside. Please come on in to my cozy cave!
A place to sit and write or read, a place to lounge, a desk to organize, a table to eat or craft at, storage for all my creativity tools and goodies. Plus girlie stuff hanging from the rafters and even my own little electric fireplace!
But I needed another wall to block out the view of paint and other supplies….hmmmmm….
I used fabric, old shower curtains, ribbons, sheets and drapes and tied them to one of the pipes running across the ceiling.
This is a table made from a one hundred and fifty year old fallen tree. I found it in Arizona and am so glad it has a cozy home to call its own now 🙂
The pictures still do not do justice to the ambiance of my new little cove. Guess you’ll just have to come over and experience it for yourself! I even have pink M&Ms!
Jana, I love it! What a beautiful, warm looking “cave” you’ve created. I know it would be a real comfy place to curl up in with your book.
Oh Judy I wish you could see it! You know how you see things in your head of how you want them to be but they rarely turn out that way? This time it went above and beyond what I expected! Jesus and I had lots of fun creating together. I felt like He actually fed me ideas 🙂 Come and sit in it with me any old time!
It looks darling.
Girl, you gotta come visit me and we can talk for hours in the girl cave and eat chocolate to our heart’s content!
Jana this turned out beautifully!
Thank you! I love it! When I walk into the “room” with my candles burning and soft music playing it absolutely is a sanctuary. The pictures don’t do justice to the warmth of the room! Come and see it sometime!
Came over from Shelly J…you do have a beautiful gift for writing. Your girl cave is wonderful, it should be very inspirational.
Oh, thank you, Karin! Thanks for coming for a “visit” to my sight. You like the cave? You are welcome any time 🙂 It really is a little sanctuary for me. I don’t know what I’ll do if we ever actually finish the basement and I have to take it all down! 🙂 So good to hear from you!!! How is your family?
