My first cup of coffee warm in my hand
The laughter of crickets in the air
Sunny blue skies stretch their glorious arms
As I sit on the back porch in my chair.
Dew still sparkles on the deep green grass
Neighbors and dogs walking by
The smell of sweet heather carried by a slight breeze
I take it all in with a sigh.
A smile creeps across my once sleepy face
As this new day is calling my name
People to meet, new places to go
No experience is quite the same.
New sights and new smells beckon to me
To come and enjoy what they give
To face this new day to the fullest and best
To know what it feels like to live.
My last sip of coffee leaves its taste on my lips
The birds calling me with their song
Anticipation grows with the thought of this day
And my time on this porch isn’t long.
Yesterday’s tomorrow is here right now
And too quickly it will be gone
So I’ll savor the flavor of each moment it gives
‘Til it fades into another new dawn….
Psalm 118:24 – This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
