(John 17:26 – “I have made your very being known to them – Who you are and what you do – and continue to make it known, so that your love for me might be in them exactly as I am in them.”)
You asked me for my friendship
And offered me Your hand,
Your never-ending presence,
A Rock on which to stand
You speak truth into my life
But You also lend Your ear
Your arms are quick to hold me close
Your fingers wipe my tears
You run to come and rescue me
When life has had it’s way
Your healing touch restores my life
And gives strength to face the day
You know my heart inside and out
More than I know myself
What you supply outweighs my need
Your bounty is my wealth
You’ve been the friend above all friends
Closer than a brother
A love that laid down it’s own life
To bring life to another.
But You asked to be my friend
And I want to do the same
To be Your friend, tried and true
And live out the title’s name.
But what on earth have I to give?
What can I offer You?
What do you give Him who has it all?
What could I ever do?
Is it just this, you ask of me
To listen to Your heart?
To long to know You through and through
And memorize each part?
Please tell me what is on Your mind
Let me be Your listening ear
I know You’re not going anywhere
And I will be right here.
Confide in me Your precious thoughts
My treasure they will be
Break my heart for what breaks Yours
And share that heart with me.
You have my ear, You have my life
You have my friendship true
And as our hearts connect, collide
May I be a Friend like you….
