Remember when I talked about Blake wanting to make a wiffle ball field in the empty lot behind us that will eventually be a park? Well, today he and I began the project. The picture above is the raw material we are starting from. Blake wants to keep track of our progress – before and after pictures. We went and got a bat and balls and bases. We hauled dirt and weed whacked and sprayed weed killer. He designed a box that he wants to build to keep the balls and bats in.
Our goal is in front of us – to have a community spot where neighbors will join us in a friendly game of wiffle ball. An open place where kids can come and hit a few balls after school and maybe grab a few cookies and some lemonade. Good old fashioned fun. And we are having so much fun! He asked me today if we could do this again tomorrow. Oh heck yeah we can! Who knows how far we’ll really get. But it doesn’t really matter. We get to do it together, working hard, catching a few rays and a lot of laughs and memories along the way.
Oh, and by the way, I can hit a mean wiffle ball. Not even kidding. It makes the coolest whooshing sound when you hit it just right….:-) Thank you, Jesus, for a really great day with my really great kid. Goofy grin all over my silly face….
