Jesus and I had a good cry this afternoon. After spending time reading with Him, I went to itunes and sang along and cried with the songs At The Cross (Hillsong), Lead Me To The Cross (Hillsong), The More I Seek You (Kari Jobe) and How He Loves Us (Kim Walker). It was awesome. Take a listen and see if your response is similar…
I was reading today about how the woman came to Jesus and said that her daughter had died and she wanted Him to come and bring her back to life. After making a stop or two with others who needed Him, He got to the woman’s house. Before even seeing the girl, he announced that she wasn’t dead, just sleeping. No one believed Him. Isn’t that interesting? They believed that He could bring her back to life, but they didn’t trust the fact that He knew what He was talking about.
It made me think…how often do we look at those who don’t know Christ as lost causes, or dead? We believe Jesus can give them life, or do we? What if Jesus sees them as “sleeping”, not yet awakened to who He is? Are we too inclined to want a quick fix, an instant miracle for each person we know who doesn’t yet know Jesus?
Can we see that the waking up process is a just as much a miracle as the sudden transformation? It seems to me that for some, the salvation experience is a specific event where they very evidently go from a state of “death” to life. For others, it is more of a process, a “waking up”. Both miraculous, but one takes more patience and trust in the One who is calling them to Himself.
I don’t know if I’ve explained what’s in my head very clearly, but it has helped me get a better grasp on how to pray for those I love that need Jesus.
Jesus, I am not the alarm clock. I’m just someone who will join them in a celebratory breakfast when they wake up…
