Five days til the moving truck comes.  I have felt pretty good about my prep for this move and all that I’ve cleaned out and gotten rid of in each room.  But there was one awful place that I was putting off for as long as I could.  Our third garage.  People are often surprised by how little we have in our two car garage, where we park both of our cars.  Surprised, until they walk into our third, separate, garage.  It is the place where all unused or infrequently used things go to get lost and die.  The last terrifying frontier that had yet to be cleaned and organized so that we would not be hauling unnecessary junk to Colorado.  And I absolutely did not want to even step in and begin.

But I have a wonderful friend named Dayle.  She is the queen of all that is organization.  And, bless her sweet little heart, she offered to help me.  To be completely honest, my plan was to tell her I changed my mind and that I just wanted to go for a play day and take her to lunch.  Dayle, however, did not fall for my attempt at denial.  And so we began the task of throwing away, putting away and organzing.  Who knew it could actually be fun?

Two hours went by quickly with funny little snippets and peaks into the Jarvis family history – old love notes and junior high diaries.  Crazy pictures from the past of my precious babies and my not-so-precious one time mullet.  (Dayle reminded me that in the eighties, its more friendly name was the “bi-level” – didn’t make it any prettier…) Barbie furniture from days gone by.  Lots and lots of color crayons well used and well loved over the years.  An adult size Raggedy Ann costume (might keep that one!).  There were both kinds of yucks – the laughing kind and the “ewwwww!” kind.

And at the end of the day, I have a really well organized garage, ready to be packed and loaded by the men who will be on my doorstep on Monday.  And a weight that I didn’t realize was there, has been lifted.

Thank you, Dayle, for a wonderful day!  Although I can’t fully understand your love for and fascination with organization, I greatly value and appreciate it!  And now we have a whole new set of inside jokes based on Janay’s sixth grade crush (referenced in her sweet diary) on Jonathan Taylor Thomas 🙂  Love you, friend, and so thankful for the time and effort you gave today.

Let's stay connected!

I promise to send some encouragement your way, and a bit of hope for the soul...

xo, jana
