My friend called me yesterday and shared with me how God had spoken to her through Psalm 61.  We call ourselves the “soul sistahs” because we are so similar in how we think and feel and the things we are passionate about.  She is going through the house hunting process, too.  And like me, she loves to decorate and create, so both of our minds have been on overload with the thoughts of how to make a new house a home.  It can be all consuming to a person who desperately wants to make everyone feel loved and safe when they walk in the door.

And therein lies the analogy.  God is that home for us.  That safe, welcoming place where we can be our true selves and feel loved and accepted.  There are so many places in the bible that talk about Him being our “dwelling place” and that we are to “abide” in Him.  That’s because He is our home.  The place where we were born to live.  The place of  “aaaaahhhhhh!” after a long day.  The place where open and honest conversation and relationship occurs.  The place where joy and true laughter happens.  The place where forgiveness is free and the wounds of life are healed.  We can live in that “home”, in God Himself, every single minute of every single day.  And here’s what happens when we do…

Psalm 61:4, 8 – “I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings…..then will I ever sing praise to your name and fulfill my vows day after day.”

Psalm 71:3, 8 (The Message) – “Be a guest room where I can retreat; you said your door was always open!…Just as each day brims with your beauty, my mouth brims with praise.”

Our hearts are homesick.  We long for home.  And when we go there we are never disappointed.  It’s the place where we are all that we were meant to be, with the One we were made to love.

Let’s “work from home” today and see what happens!

Let's stay connected!

I promise to send some encouragement your way, and a bit of hope for the soul...
