Sorry, but I guess I wasn’t quite finished with my thoughts about worship from last night.  So much to process and refect on…

In my quiet time this morning, the passage was Joshua 24.  God’s conversation with Israel through Joshua, reminding them of His great love shown in all the ways he had protected, fought for, saved and blessed them.  And yet time after time, they had turned to false gods, had turned their worship away from God to other things even after all He had done.

In verse 16 they declare, “We’d never forsake God! Never! We’d never leave God to worship other gods…Count us in.  We too are going to worship God.  He’s our God.” (The Message)

They’d forgotten their own fickleness, their attention deficit toward the God of their salvation. And it’s easy to see their blindspots, seems so obvious.  But what about mine?  How many times has my misdirected worship been so subtle, turned toward other good things, that I don’t even see it?

It also reminds me of Peter in the New Testament who also declared his love for Jesus passionately, saying he would give his life for Him, and then in one evening denied even knowing Him three times in a row.  So like all of us.  We live in a broken world that distracts and disrupts and diverts our worship.

As believers we are all called to be “worship leaders”.  To be a daily example of true worship of our God to those around us to help them to do the same. God, please strengthen  and equip us to do just that…

Let's stay connected!

I promise to send some encouragement your way, and a bit of hope for the soul...
