This past week I saw the most vivid display of hopelessness I have ever, ever encountered. You, a soul who has lost absolutely everything in this world. Your grip is on a thread so thin it threatens to break at any moment.. I am at a loss as to what to say to you, what to do for you.
But I am praying and praying. And bringing you to Jesus, I want so badly for you to know The Romancer of the Hopeless. Can you hear Him calling?
HOPELESS ROMANTIC
I can see it in your eyes as they leak down your face
Though your trembling hands wipe to remove every trace.
The crack in your voice shows the lump your throat bears
Your posture betrays the full weight of your cares.
The future, it mocks you, has left you behind
Leaving a dark, lonely void in your mind.
Too weak to stand, to reach, lift your head
Your heart lies depleted and flat, left for dead.
You can almost taste death, both bitter and sweet
An end to your struggle, your grief and defeat.
But dear one, please listen to this one thing I say
Please look in my eyes and see Hope on the way.
I have a Dear Friend who knows you by heart
Who crafted your being with each unique part.
He runs to the hopeless with arms open wide
This Hopeless Romantic is Love deified.
Familiar with pain, He knows what you feel
He’s walked where you’ve walked, He knows that it’s real.
Though you’re crippled with grief, His heart breaks even more
The loss you’ve endured, He feels to His core.
But He didn’t just come here to commiserate
He came to bring life, to save, liberate.
He romances the hopeless, this Lover of your soul.
He came to take broken and turn it to whole.
He gave up His life, what more could He do
To prove He would die just to be close to you?
This Hopeless Romantic, woos you today
Give Him the despair and He’ll throw it away.
He’ll bind up each wound and dab every tear
Holding you close, He’ll release every fear.
He’s there for the journey, no matter how long
He’ll sing over you, then teach you the song.
He’s opened blind eyes, made once lame legs dance
He’ll make old into new if you give Him the chance.
The Hopeless Romantic is calling YOUR name
To free you from hopelessness, heartache and shame.
His hand reaches out to lift you back up
To feast at His table and drink from His cup.
For all that you’ve lost, let Him be your More
Oh please, friend, oh please, what are you waiting for?
Proverbs 13:32 – Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.
Romans 15:13 – May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
Zephaniah 3:17 – The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.
Psalm 43:5 – Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Jana, this is completely TRUE and as such, beautiful. Thank you for sharing what you’ve composed here.
Thank you, Kathy. This woman’s story was such a picture of hopelessness and despair. So obvious, it was painful to watch. But it was a reminder to me of Jesus’ great message of hope and love for an entire world that needs Him just as desperately as this dear woman. How do people live without hope??? xoxoxo – J
