My friend La Vonne (thank you, sweet girl!) posted this verse on Facebook this morning:
Habakkuk 1:5 – Look… and be UTTERLY AMAZED. For I am going to do something in your days that YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE, even if you were told.
This is God’s response to Habakkuk after hearing his complaint, wondering why God was allowing certain things to happen. Questioning God’s timing and His attention to the details of what was going on around him.
Sound familiar? Like Habakkuk, I can only see this side of any situation. Unlike God, I can’t see the endpoint from this vantage point. I can’t see what hasn’t happened yet. I’m limited to only seeing the visible, what’s right in front of my face. It makes sense that I would have questions, and like Habakkuk, question what God is or isn’t doing.
But, faith allows me to trust HIS eyes and not my own nearsightedness. Trust lets me believe that there are things happening beneath the surface of the obvious that are on the verge of bursting through to humble and amaze me, and to bring the glory to God that He has deserved all along.
Because He hasn’t missed a thing. He hasn’t turned a blind eye to the details of our lives, to the goings on of the world around us. The things that worry me do not phase Him. He has a plan. And it is really, really good.
Once again, I’m reminded of the promise in Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
And Paul declares this in Ephesians 3:20 – Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
Such hope. Such a glimpse into the Father’s heart of love, into the vastness of His power, into the unfathomable depth of His plans. He’s got this.
His timing may leave me scratching my head sometimes. His methods might even have me in tears. But I can know that every motivation He has in my life and in YOUR life begins and ends with boundless love and infinite wisdom.
I want eyes that are looking for God to UTTERLY AMAZE me. I want to pray boldly in that direction when I can’t see even the trace of a miracle. I want to trust so completely in what God says, that I trade my nearsightedness for His x-ray vision into my future.
Jesus, let it be…
2 Corinthians 5:7 – For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Just read you 2-6 comments. I was reminded this morning that each of us is on God’s path – HIS choosing for our lives at this point in time. So we should NEVER GIVE UP. We are to HOPE IN OUR LORD GOD ALMIGHTY. Being aware of His presence in our lives helps us to be attentive to our marvelous Lord. Thanks, Jana, for the way our Lord is using you.
Sure do love you.
