If today were my last day on this planet, would I act any differently?
Would I take in every moment, enjoy every word and syllable?
Would I initiate and linger over every hug?
Would I realize that what I do today scatters seeds that will grow long after I’m gone?
If I knew that I would draw my last breath at midnight tonight, what would I do?
Would I spend my time worrying or take advantage of every minute with every person?
Would I be more deliberate with my words?
Would I look directly into the eyes of others so that they know they are loved and accepted and heard?
If today was the last time I could dance or sing or play, would I dance and sing and play with my whole heart?
Would I try something new, with no fear of failure?
Would I care less about making a fool of myself and more about living my last hours with full abandon?
Would I try to impart in any way possible the lessons I’ve learned?
If, like Cinderella, I knew that my moment of magic wouldn’t last forever , would I waltz in glass slippers?
Would I pluck and smell every flower and blossom?
Would I savor every last bite of all things sweet and sour and salty?
Would I drink in the beauty of the trees and mountains and the ocean and sense their enchantment?
If I could hear the giant clock of time ticking against me, would everything I do be more deliberate?
Would I collect my thoughts like seashells, once scattered along the shore?
Would I skip instead of walk and sing instead of talk?
Would I write a note to every person who has influenced and impacted and blessed my life?
If today were the last 24 hours before I entered eternity, would I live differently.
It seems I would.
And so I should. Today. Knowing it COULD be my last. Believing it DOES make a difference. Trusting that GOD made this good day to be used and enjoyed and wrung out in the best ways possible.
As if it were my last…
Daniel 12:3 – Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.
Matthew 5:24-16 – You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
