Less is more.
This phrase might not apply to everything , but in terms of enjoying a certain simplicity in life, it is absolute true.
When I was staging/redecorating homes one of the most impactful things I would do in a house was to de-clutter. Not only did it make the house look better, it also made it FEEL better. A simple, clean environment actually relaxes a person. LESS clutter is MORE restful. Clients would say that coming back into their homes after having this done actually gave them a sense of “Aaaaahhhhhh….home!”
I’ve learned (and am still learning) the hard way, that a simpler schedule contributes to a healthier mental state for me. My natural tendency is to overfill my days. I can do this for a time and then I hit a wall of exhaustion. When my schedule is LESS hectic, I have MORE time to reflect and engage in the things I’m involved in.
I saw the phrase HAPPINESS = REALITY – EXPECTATIONS. In other words, the happiest people are the one that live within their reality and not the disappointment of unmet expectations. LESS unrealistic expectations equals MORE contentedness.
Less is more.
Why do we, as humans, tend to drift from simplicity? The world around us seems to tell us that we need more. We should do more. We should buy more. We should overextend ourselves to get it and achieve it. And what’s the result? Frustration. Exhaustion. Disappointment.
God loves simplicity. He created us from dirt. He came to us in a stable. He lived with us in a tunic and sandals, with little else to His name.
And He only asks two things of us: To love Him and to love people.
He knew that less was more. That two things were quite enough for us to focus on and that ultimately only those two things were needed for a meaningful, abundant life to happen.
Less really IS more. More simple. More doable. More wonderful. More eternal.
Let’s look for less and find so much more!
Luke 10:27 – He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”
Luke 10:41-42 – “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
