Yesterday was spent solid-staining my bedroom deck – my favorite spot to write and enjoy a cup of hot coffee in the morning. 🙂
There is just something about being up early and seeing the world around me waking up. Birds singing. Sun rising. People walking their dogs. It’s as if I’m privy to the intimate yawning and stretching of a new day. Somehow this routine just jump starts the rest of my day that will too quickly get filled with lists and chores.
One of the reasons that this is my favorite time for writing is that it’s the point in the day where my mind feels freshest – most prone to the remains of any creativity that may have paid my mind a visit in the night.
This is the time of day when the verses in Lamentations resonate most with my heart: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23
How amazing is it that every single morning we are greeted by “steadfast love” and brand new mercies? Constant. Unending. Fresh and new every morning. No matter what the day holds, no matter what the night before contained, every morning we are given the precious gift of this promise.
What fertile ground for fresh starts and new outlooks! With the realization that God’s love is poured out on us in a fresh stream with every sunrise, we can go into each day with great anticipation and leave fear behind. Every day holds its own set of possibilities and opportunities. The chance to share that fresh stream of love and mercy with someone else who might desperately need it today.
What will that brand new love and mercy look like today? What flavor will it contain? What fragrance will it bring? We’ll only know if we wake up with eyes ready to see it, ears ready to listen for it, and a nose ready to sniff out every beautiful bit of it!
Good morning! And welcome to a new day of fresh mercy, compliments of the God who loves you more than words convey!!!!
Psalm 118:24 – The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad!
