Once in a great while, something hits you so profoundly that it leaves you thinking and processing for days after, and somehow  changes your life forever.

I was online recently and heard someone talking about the Holy Spirit and His presence in our lives.  Our relationship with Him.  The fact that we can enjoy His presence continually.

This was not necessarily new information to me – I know of the Holy Spirit’s presence and experience His power in my life.  But it hit me like a bolt of lightening that I have the privilege of an intimate RELATIONSHIP with the Holy Spirit.  That this relationship is different and unique from my relationship with God, THE FATHER and Jesus, GOD’S SON.  While they are all personalities of the triune God, they each have their own role.

I think of it this way – Look at an egg.  It is one egg, but it is made of three parts – the shell, the egg white and the yolk.  The shell allows me to hold the egg in my hand. It holds the three together. The white and the yolk, though both edible, each have a different flavor and consistency.  Each adds something different to a recipe.  Still, all three parts comprise ONE egg.

Sometimes I think the Holy Spirit gets overlooked, misunderstood or completely ignored.  If we have a relationship with God, the Holy Spirit is present in our lives and we need to be aware of that presence.  To invest in that relationship.  He is the one who guides us with His whispers of thought and that “gut feeling”.  He reveals things to us that we need to work on in our lives and helps us to do just that.  He is our comforter when grief has its way with us.  He is the one who came to be with us here on earth when Jesus left to go back to heaven.  The friend that God gave us to enjoy until we see Him face to face.

When we recognize His presence, not just knowing it with our heads as a fact, but experiencing it in our hearts as a REALITY, life begins to look very different.  Mundane takes on meaning.  Random becomes a word of the past.  Every moment, every movement, every mountain has purpose.  When we are in communication with The Father, The Son, AND the Holy Spirit, we realize that we are richly blessed with three incredible relationships that make life LIVELY!

We are never, ever alone.  We are hand-in-hand with God Himself, in the person of the Holy Spirit.  Amazing…

2 Corinthians 13:14 – “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.”

John 14:26 – But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

Romans 8:26 – “And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words”

John 16:7, 13-15 – But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you…But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.  He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you.  All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.
