(For those I know and love that are going through limbo and difficulty right now.  He is there, both hands extended…)

May I walk out on the water when the storm around me blows

Though I taste the salt of every crashing wave

May my eyes not leave the One I love Whose hands extend to me

My frightened, shaking heart and soul to save.

May I feel the water’s rhythm when my feet can’t touch the ground

Though my ears are deafened by the ocean’s roar

May my vision be so focused on the One who lives for me

That I read the precious lips that speak “Be still.”

May I not just walk on water, not just endure the storm

But dance upon the surface of the sea

May I learn to hear the music in the splashing of the waves

And sing loudly with the One who sings with me.

Deep are the waters

Still deeper His love

So deeper this faith grows in me.

Strong are the waves

Still stronger is He

So stronger through this I will be.

Matthew 14:24-33 –

…and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.  But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.  Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

2 Corinthians 12:8-10 – Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.  But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
