Education never really ends, does it?
In the classroom after a test, the teacher doesn’t announce, “You’re finished! No need to complete this class!” They know there are more tests to be taken, more studying to be done.
At graduation ceremonies, teachers and professors never say, “You’re done! No more learning for you!” It’s understood that from that point on, a whole new level of learning begins.
We might never step foot in another classroom or open another text book for the rest of our lives, but hopefully we never allow ourselves to stop learning. To falsely think that we have “arrived”.
On this journey I’m on right now, the transition of waiting, I feel like I’m taking a new class each day. Sometimes it’s a class on trust. Sometimes patience. Sometimes gratitude. Sometimes letting go. At times it feels like a P.E. class for my heart and mind, building muscle and strength for the next obstacle course.
But every so often, there is recess. A time to just run around the playground and not have to think for a little while. And somehow, even there, there are lessons to be learned. Interactions with friends and strangers that challenge, encourage and help grow me.
It’s early and I don’t know what learning awaits me today. But if I look at the happenings of the day as opportunities to develop what God is creating in me, then I will be less frustrated with the process. I will be more trusting. More patient. More grateful. More prone to letting go. Because all lessons before have led up to what today holds. And each one makes me a little bit more like my Teacher.
Luke 6:40 – A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 – All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
