When those you love are close to eternity, you can’t help but wonder…

And I wonder…

As we take our last breath on this earth, will Jesus rush in to breathe fresh, new, everlasting life into us as He did to Adam in the Garden of Eden?

And I wonder…

As our ears begin to shut out the noise of this world, will the last and first thing we hear be the music of angels singing in perfect harmony our Welcome Home song?

And I wonder…

As our eyes close for the last time, will we greeted by colors we’ve never seen, more brilliant than we can imagine, more beautiful than our human eyes could have taken in?

And I wonder…

As the familiar smells of life begin to disappear, will we for the first time smell what life really is?  Life in flawless flowers whose fragrance fill the air?  The scents of pine and cedar and trees too magnificent for earth to hold?

And I wonder…

As we feel the releasing hands of those we love letting us go, will we also feel the scars on the strong and gentle Hands of the One who accompanies us to the life that awaits?   Will we see the imprint of our name in His palm?

And I wonder…

Yet I know that all my “wonders” will turn to WONDER when I see Him face to face.  When I feel His embrace.  When death isn’t even a distant memory.  When I join the chorus of the angels and all that have gone before me.  When I fall to my knees in uninterrupted worship, with full abandon, of the One I lived to one day meet.  When life, really, has only just begun…

Revelation 21:4 –  He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.

Revelation 22:1-5 – Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.  No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

I Corinthians 7:2 – But, as it is written,”What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”

Philippians 3:20-21 – But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
