I hate going to the doctor.  Not because I’m fearful.  I actually love medical settings.  Not because I’m queazy about blood or needles.  Believe it or not, I enjoy watching the tube fill up when inserted into my arm.  That life-giving fluid pouring into a little piece of glass.  Fascinating.

No, the reason I hate going to the doctor is much more lame than that.  I just hate taking the time to do it.  It’s why I put it off with other “more important” things to do.  But today I have two appointments because my doctor basically laid down the law on me.  Grrrrr….

Don’t worry…nothing serious.  Just a pelvic ultrasound at the hospital and then a follow-up appointment with my doctor.  The ultrasound tells the story of what is going on deep within, where the doctor can’t see from the outside.  It gives a clear view and a picture of what is happening, if there is a problem, and what the next step should be or not be.

If I am experiencing pain (physical, emotional, spiritual), it’s easy to try and just fix it from the outside with a bandaid type solution.  At least that will make it seem like everything is okay.  Choose to ignore it.

The glitch with that approach is that the problem doesn’t go away.  In general, it will only get worse.  It will begin affecting other areas.  We ARE, after all, complex creatures where every part of us, mind, body and spirit are interconnected.

God offers the “ultrasound” solution.  A look deep inside to see what’s really going on.  To expose the broken part and how best to fix it.  It might start with forgiveness from or for someone.  It might start with changing something in your life that needs changing or eliminating.  It might be healing from a past injury.  Visiting a wound that was never dealt with.  When we let God’s ultrasound show us what’s going on we then have a choice.  Will we treat it or continue to ignore it?  Will we choose health and vitality or denial?

It seems like the choice would be so simple.  But for some reason it’s not.  As the saying goes, we feel that “the devil you know” is better than the devil you don’t.  We’d rather live with what we’re used to than take the risk to discover the yet unknown.  From personal experience again and again, I will tell you.  There is no comparison.  What God has in store is SO far beyond the yuck that we get stuck in.

My encouragement?  Make an appointment with God.  Let Him use His “ultrasound” to show you things deep inside that need His love and healing touch.  Our Great Physician has an incredible reputation for curing “what ails you”.  Give Him a call.  There is no fee and the results are unmatchable.  And if you want, I’ll even go to the appointment with you and hold your hand through all of it…
