(I wrote this three years ago at Thanksgiving time. I was trying to write something new this morning, but find myself too excited and distracted by the baking and cleaning that needs to be done. So this will have to do for today 🙂 Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!)
Sitting at McDonalds
Dippin’ french fries in my shake
Cheeseburger, hold the pickles
Ketchup on my face
Sittin’ with my daddy
Smilin’ ear to ear
I looked up and asked him
”Daddy why do you like it here?”
He said….
It’s not about the menu
It’s not about the food
It’s not about the service
Or their cheery attitude
It’s all about together time
There’s nothing I’d rather do
Cuz it’s not about the menu
It’s about the Me’n’U
I got a little older
Went out on a date
Ordered the most expensive thing
A sophisticated plate
I felt somewhat embarrassed
As I caught sight of the bill
When I offered my apology
I can hear his answer still
He said,
It’s not about the menu
It’s not about the food
It’s not the lovely linens
Or the fancy attitude
It’s all about together time
There’s nothing I’d rather do
Cuz it’s not about the menu
It’s about the Me’n’U
Now it is Thanksgiving
I have a family of my own
I’ll serve delicious turkey
And my famous homemade rolls
We’ll invite those without family
To come and share the day
We’ll eat and play and talk and laugh
And when they’ve gone away
I’ll say…
It’s not about the menu
It’s not about the food
Not the decorated table
Or candles that set the mood
It’s all about together time
There’s nothing I’d rather do
Cuz it’s not about the menu
It’s about the Me’n’U
If we focus on the menu
We’ll miss the best part
Where people come together
And share what’s on their heart
It really doesn’t matter
How the table looks
Or if the house is spic and span
Or the meat is overcooked
People just need lovin’
Let’s see what we can do
To not just serve a menu
But serve as Me’n’U
Hey, J–a great post. You’ve said it better than I ever did sittin’ in McDonalds! Love, Dad.
Love you, dad!
