Funny story…

Yesterday I met a friend for lunch.  She beat me there and was chatting it up with a gal she had just met while waiting for me.  All three of us began talking.  Turns out this gal (Suzie) was waiting for someone she had just met a few days prior at a nail salon.  We decided to help her pass the time a bit while she waited for her new friend.  She joked that she might not even recognize her when she came in since she had only met her once.  Then she told us that she had lost her number so couldn’t call her to see if she was actually coming.  We continued our conversation, talking about our jobs and hobbies.  I mentioned that I staged for Cotton Kloset.  She stopped me and said, “I think that’s where the gal I’m meeting works!”

Short story shorter, Suzie was there to have lunch with my friend and co-worker Amy!  I, of course, had Amy’s number in my phone so Suzie was able to call her.

We laughed at this timely “coincidence” and how well it worked out that we had met just minutes before.  I love it when those things happen – circles interconnecting and looping through each other.  But to me it was just a very small reminder of how every opportunity we have with people, whether we know them or not, can have meaning.  It might just be a smile or letting someone in front of you in line.  Or a listening ear.  Help with directions.  A helping hand.  Things that seem insignificant but might just help to make someone’s day better. Sometimes we might get the privilege of seeing the impact a small gesture might have.  But even better are the majority of times that we DON’T.  When random acts of kindness become such a part of who we are that we don’t even realize that we’ve done them and never know the full effect that  they have on others.

The words we say, the things we do, the attitudes we portray – they all matter.  For good or for bad, they do leave a mark. I hope that the imprints I leave behind are “beauty marks” and not “scars”.

Enjoy your day.  Make people glad that you crossed their path today…

Colossians 4:6 – Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

Matthew 7:12 – So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you…

Ephesians 5:15 – 16 –  So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity…
