My dream is to live in a cabin one day. Until then, I’ve been finding ways to use rustic barn wood in our home to give me a cabin or lodge like feel.
As I’ve shown in pictures in the past, the first project we had done when we moved to Colorado was our stone and barn wood mantle and fireplace in the family room. Everyone is drawn in by its warmth and natural look. It is my favorite part of the house.
Well, yesterday, my friend and contractor, Blake, worked some magic again, only this time in our master bedroom, putting 120 year old barn wood mixed with planks from his old deck on the wall behind the bed. I don’t think the lighting is right on my camera, because I don’t feel like true justice is done in any of these pictures color or detail or texture wise. But you get an idea at least….Old gnarly wood with residual old rusty nails (I added some of my own, too 🙂 ), awesome knots and various shades of old grays, browns and tans intermingling and playing together to make a cozy, cabin like room. I am in heaven! Blake, you rock!
Mark is coming home soon from a week in London and has no idea what was done. Only that there is a surprise waiting for him. Hope he feels the same way about it that I do…hope, hope, hope…
I thought of a joke while the wall was being worked on when Blake said that some of the boards were incredibly hard, nearly petrified. My thought? You’d be petrified too if someone had your back against the wall ready to pound you…just a little humor….very little…(hopefully, Mark won’t be petrified of the wall!)
Blake did a couple more things around the house with barn wood, wrapping high areas. They look amazing in person, but are hard to capture on camera because of the height factor. Just trust me on this one…the guy does incredible work!
So if you ever feel like a trip to the Rockies, please stop by my little “cabin” on the cul-de-sac. Free cocoa and cookies, I promise!!!!
It’s beautiful!!
Thanks friend! Come and see me!!! xoxo
