There’s a sure way to tell if I’m feeling stressed about something I can’t control. It’s called sugar. If I am waiting for results or an answer or an outcome, my initial reaction is to grab the closest piece of chocolate. Not because my body is hungry or my blood sugar is low, but because my soul is hungry and my faith is low.
Most of us don’t enjoy limbo – that place where we are left without knowing what the future, either immediate or distant, holds. It’s unnerving. We just want to know one way or the other. If it’s good news, we will be happy. If it’s bad news, at least we will be able to begin dealing with it and move on. At least we know.
But it’s in those times of not knowing what’s around the corner that (after scarfing down chocolate) I run to Jesus to give me much needed peace. It doesn’t mean I get an immediate answer, but if I stop and realize that I am in the hands of the One who holds my future, my heart calms down and my soul finds rest. He reminds me that He loves me more than I can imagine and that His plans are good and perfect and just on time.
And those answers? They are worth the wait…
1 Peter 5:6-7 – Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
Psalm 37:5-6 – Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun.
