Psalm 91:1-2 – He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
shelter – “something that provides cover or protection”
shadow – “a definite area of shade cast upon a surface by a body intercepting the light rays”
refuge – “a source of help, relief, or comfort in times of trouble”
fortress – “any place of exceptional security; stronghold”
Your shelter covers me
From wind and rain and things unseen
I still can hear the thunder
But I am safe, now under
The shelter that You are and You will be.
Your shadow covers me
From scorching sun and unrelenting heat
Though dry days still exist
Your sweet shade still persists
In the shadow of Your presence I will be.
My Refuge takes me in
Protects me from the darkness of ever-calling sin
Temptation beckons still
But I know You always will
Be my refuge from the turmoil within.
My Fortress stands for me
Strong and bold against my strongest enemy
Though arrows come my way
I know that You will stay
A fortress of protection You will be.
Though wind and rain will come and go
Though scorching sun beats down
Though sin may call and foes may taunt
This is what I’ve found….
My shelter, Your shadow, my refuge, Your strength
Will cover me all of my days
My great Fortress, my God, in whom I will trust
Is worthy of all of my praise….
