I love staging and redecorating for people. I love to watch the transformation take place and the look on a homeowner’s face when they see that transformation. I love to take the old and make it new. Sometimes that means getting rid of the old, outdated stuff. Sometimes that means reworking or repurposing the old stuff. Sometimes all it takes is rearranging it.
And then bringing in new touches that bring new life to a room. Now that’s really fun! New color or texture. New style or new artwork. The room becomes a new place of enjoyment and refreshment. It’s the power of transformation. Of “doing a new thing”.
God loves doing that, too. Look what He says in Isaiah 43:18-19 – “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing!” We all have things in the “home” of our hearts that need to be removed or rearranged. Regrets, mistakes, failures, hurts. They dull the beauty of our hearts. And God says, “Look! I want to do something new! I want to bring back color and life and beauty!” And if we let Him, He absolutely will. If we trust His very talented and able hands to do their thing, He will transform us completely, making our hearts new again.
Tomorrow I start a new job of staging for a local store. And as I work on “reworking” the look of their store, I will remember the many times that God has needed to do the same in my heart. And I will ask Him to use that analogy to inspire me as we work together to “do a new thing”….
