Some of you who know me, know of my intense fascination with God’s hands. He had those hands on us from the time of creation, molding us into form out of mere dirt. Magical hands. He covered Moses’ eyes with his hands when he passed in front of him, to shield him from the immensity of His glory. Protective hands. He took on tiny, precious baby hands when He came to earth as a newborn. Humble hands. He used those hands to work for his earthly father as a carpenter. Working hands. Those hands healed and touched and restored the lives of people He came in contact with daily. Interactive hands. The same hands that were nailed to a cross to offer us forgiveness and a relationship with Him. Life -giving hands.
I could go on and on. Throughout history God’s hands have been evident either metaphorically or physically in all He does in and around us. I love that.
Today I was reading some more verses about those amazing hands. Isaiah 41:10 and 13 – “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous RIGHT HAND.” “For I am the Lord, Your God, who takes hold of your RIGHT HAND and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”
I looked up the meaning of the right hand of God. It symbolizes power and strength and omnipotence. If Jesus is holding me in His right hand, it’s no wonder that He tells me not to be afraid or worried. The God of all power and strength is holding and upholding me. But equally as awesome is the fact that He takes MY right hand and holds it, supplying it with His strength and presence. He walks with me, my hand in His, through whatever my days look like. And again, He tells me not to be afraid, because He is is there and He will help me.
Are you getting the same picture I am, of a loving and protective daddy? One who holds and comforts us when life is hard. Who carries us when exhaustion sets in. And one who walks with us, our little hand in His big one, sharing life with us. And whether he is holding or carrying or walking alongside us, His never-changing message is the same – Don’t be afraid. I’m right here. Hands ready and available.
And that is the sweetest comfort ever….hands down….
