On Friday, I got my toes all ready for a trip to the sunshine and heat of Orlando, Florida. Blake and I were to head there with our friends Tamera and Steele for five days of relaxation and fun. My toes were really happy about this…
What none of us, including my toes, knew, was that we were in for a long day at the airport on Saturday, with disappointing results. We waited to get on flights (we were on standby) for nearly TWELVE HOURS at the airport. It’s spring break. Just wasn’t gonna happen. Toes were less happy. Hearts were exhausted and disappointed. We looked into flights going ANYWHERE warm that didn’t require a passport. No luck.
So we decided to spend a couple of nights in Denver. WHOOPEE!!!! Thankfully, we all like each other an awful lot, so there was much laughing, occasional singing and eating of various forms of chocolate. A sense of humor in this situation was completely necessary. And joke, we did…
So, instead of going to Epcot, we got to watch men in the street playing chess…
Instead of lying on the beach, we got to walk the sidewalks of downtown Denver…
Instead of posing with Mickey Mouse, we got to pose in the Nike store….
Instead of reading and sipping umbrella drinks by the pool, we got to share our hearts in a hotel lobby…
And let’s be honest, if we had been in the tropical glory of the citrus state, we would never have had the privilege of seeing and being a little frightened by the “afro space man”….
So, long story short, we lived out the word “staycation”…
Back home again, I am donning my hat (purchased for the trip) and putting on paint clothes to take on the task that is my laundry room. Because no matter what vacations may go awry, there are always walls to be painted and rooms to be transformed…and this will be the salve to soothe my soul since I won’t be needing any salve for my non-existent sunburn…
