There are times in life
We’re glad for things so small
That come in handy in a pinch
That help us when we fall
Yesterday was one such day
And I was really glad
That leggings were invented
Or things could have been bad.
Consulting with a client
We were discussing paint
Easy task for those with grace
But graceful, no, I ain’t
As the contractor measured
I stood there by his side
Making mental notes
And trying to decide
Which color paint should mark each wall
Where should each color go?
Normally a simple task
But what I didn’t know
Was that behind me on the floor
Lay a simple stool
A harmless piece of furniture
Except when you’re a fool.
One slight misstep on my part
And my world turned upside down
I backed into the stools edge
And my smile turned to frown
I felt the fall coming
Helpless to stop
My arms now wildly flailing
My entire body dropped
Legs went out from under
From ground to air instead
And then I was quite literally
Heels over head
My body didn’t stop
Til I landed on the floor
Flat on my back
Embarrassed to the core
My face now glowing bright red
There was nothing I could say
So for just a moment
Of the floor I chose to lay
My mind could not quite conjur
Any words to convey
The ridiculous thing they witnessed
Right before them yesterday
So, yes, I’m more than thankful
For the leggings that I wore
Under my dress, they saved the day
So humiliation wasn’t more.
The moral of this story?
Maybe I should stick to pants
When consulting around furniture
Or else I take the chance
Of dresses flying upward
While I am flying down
And heels falling over head
And landing on the ground!
