Yesterday and today I’ve been pondering over verses 89-112 in Psalm 119. It’s all about God’s word in our lives. And it lists many names for it – your precepts, your laws, your statutes, your decrees, your promises… Then it lists everything that God’s word does and is –
-eternal
-stands firm
-continues
-endures
-my delight
-renews my life
-boundless
-makes me wise
-ever with me
-insight
-understanding
-sweet
-wisdom
-lamp
-light
-my heritage
-joy of my heart
Wow! What a list! If I truly see God’s word as all these things then, like David, I will have the following responses to it –
-my delight
-seek out
-ponder
-love
-meditate
-obey
-taste
-follow
-learn
-not forget
-my joy
-heart set on keeping them
David truly believed the value and the importance of God’s word in his life. He knew that God used it to teach him, to guide him, to encourage him, to show His love to him. And he responded as such, not because he had to but because it was the natural reaction of his heart.
Jesus, may I be so in love with You that I long for Your word in my life daily and turn to it’s wisdom and counsel minute by minute of each day. May Your words empower my life and change me so that I am a vessel through which You can shine. May Your thoughts, Your precepts, Your promises truly be “the joy of my heart”…
