A big yellow moving van came through our neighborhood today. I did the happy dance. This meant that new people were moving in and that we would have new neighbors. Now this would always make my heart sing in any neighborhood, but especially in our new neighborhood where finished houses with people in them are few and far between.
So out came the bowl and the ingredients for chocolate chip cookies. I stopped by their house on my way to church tonight. A sweet family of seven (five kids ages 7 and under!). We chatted for a few minutes and I left my name and number in case they need anything from the three month veteran of the neighborhood. 🙂
As more and more houses are being built around us, there is an ever growing excitement. I envision holiday parties, bbqs, block parties, etc. A new sense of community. And so again I pray. I pray that God will make me a good and available neighbor. Sensitive to needs. Hospitable. An open home with open arms. I pray that Jesus will help me to truly “love my neighbor as I love myself”. And that, ultimately, they would see Him in me and want to know Him, too.
Today it started with a silly little plate of cookies. But maybe that will be the beginning of a new hunger for something even richer and more delicious. A relationship with Jesus….
My granddaughter knows when to post a blog just for her grandma!! Today is a day when my God does know me on the inside (let alone the outside) and I am so grateful for His Grace each minute. This was a difficult day to sing with an emotion-filled voice…each word and phrase reminded me of my loving Father’s care of me in my daily walk. We sang a song unknown to me, but Dewitt has always done this as a solo but has been wanting to do a duet and today was the day. ( I had to use a cheat sheet for the first time.) call me if you have the time.
hey grandma! thanks for your note. glad that the post came at a good time for you. I love your heart and its tenderness. I think you passed that to me. And most of the time I love it, but sometimes it hurts like heck. sang on a new worship team for four services this weekend. and, like you, i had to sing a new song, also. but my cheat sheet was up on the big screen! I love you, grandma, and will call you this week so we can catch up and giggle together! xoxo
