This is probably one of my very favorite pictures of Blake. And not just because he is rockin’ a mean bowl cut and has the greatest dimples on the planet. It’s because his heart is all over his face as he holds his screaming baby brother. His big protective hands holding on tight and absolutely no sense of anything but pure joy in holding Mitchell. Isn’t it precious???? That is the heart that my now six foot son still has. He gives great hugs and holds on tight when you need it most.
As I walked by this picture again today, I had another thought. I think God holds us like that. We are frail and little and our hearts (like Mitchell’s) are broken. And God holds us with a big smile on His face. A smile that says, “I love you soooooooo much!!!!” A smile that is confident in His strength to hold and protect us. We cry out and His big strong hands are right there. Thankfully, I am pretty sure that God doesn’t sport a bowl cut… 🙂
Pictures of God’s love are all around us, all the time. And I’m glad He got my attention today with a cute picture of the two cutest boys in the world. Says me. 🙂
P.S. Those big strong hands of my son are now writing and playing music on our recently (and finally!) tuned piano. He’s even helping me a little with my songs. And mama is smiling 🙂
Psalm 63:7-8 (The Message) – Because You always stood up for me, I’m free to run and play. I hold on to you for dear life, and You hold me steady as a post.”
I have never seen this picture of Blake and Mitchell before. How sweet. I only have one picture of Mitchell so this just blessed my heart. I look forward to seeing and holding him one day. Love you, Grandma
I remember that picture….great post!
