I took my friend Dayle on a little journey today. She was called to courage. It was new frontier. The unknown. I was called to ENcourage. Together we went into the land of color and pattern and design… A little scary for her. Sheer delight for me.
We took on her front room. Up to this point she has not really known what to do with it, but wanted it to be more conducive to entertaining and intimate conversations and quiet times. So we turned one long room into two different areas. The first was in front of her big picture window. We put two new chairs (bought dirt cheap from Jaime!) by the window and then placed tables and lights in this section to serve as a reading area or a place for one on one conversations. We threw in a splash of a warm “burnt sienna” type reddish color. We pulled in pictures and decor from other rooms. Changed positioning of plants and such, painted a couple of side tables black, and presto change-o! It became its own cozy space.
In the other part of the room we put the couch and loveseat, a lamp from another room, a table from the porch and the existing square coffee table, which we turned on the diagonal. We went and got some scrumptious, bold printed fabrics to make pillows with, which will incorporate the browns, reds and golden hues of the room. This brought to life an art piece that they already had on that wall. A couple of lush healthy plants completed the look and helped make it both inviting and lovely.
The overall look that she ended up with in the two areas was warmth. Fun new places to have guests or enjoy quiet alone time with a good book. She was such a trooper, and even when she was feeling a little hesitant, she wanted to plunge ahead and leap the walls of her comfort zone and experience life a little outside her normal box. Such a proud moment. She has now entered the land of pattern and color boldness and she will never be the same….
Thanks, sweet Dayle for such a wonderful day. I am gonna miss you horribly. Thanks for trusting me today and trusting yourself to try something new. Wasn’t it fun???? Now you can come and help me with my new house 🙂
