I got the call about two thirty this afternoon.  Janay was sobbing into the phone saying that she needed to go to the hospital because she was in so much pain.  This is the girl who avoids medical intervention at any cost.  And she was talking about driving herself to the ER.  I knew she must have felt really bad.

Janay lives about 45 minutes from us, so it was a trek to get to her hospital.  I only got lost about three times (not bad for me).  I headed into the ER waiting room and instantly knew who I saw to my right.  Janay’s new boyfriend, Court, whom I had not met up to now.  All six foot five of him.  I’m pretty sure I could have taken a nap in one of his shoes 🙂  He stood to greet me and gave me a big hug.  This was our first meeting and Janay wasn’t even there. She had already been taken back to a room.  So we sat, and for the next 20 minutes or so, we got to know each other a little bit.  He was extremely easy to talk to and had a great sense of humor.  A must for any Jarvis girl 🙂 You’d never know we’d just met minutes before.

The nurse came and got us and we headed back.  Janay was in excruciating pain.  They had started a morphine drip, but it wasn’t kickin’ the knife in her left abdomen.  They gave her a second dose.  It didn’t ease the pain, but it did succeed in making her vomit several times.  And this is where Court earned even more brownie points with mama.  He held the bucket and rubbed her head, as she puked her guts out.  He was so tender and sweet with her and my heart smyled.

The pain continued and she was given another dose of morphine which, again, made her sick.  But their ease with each other and humor throughout the situation warmed my heart.  Janay, though feeling horrible, was gracious and apologetic to the nurse who was doing such a good job of caring for her.  I was proud of my loving, thoughtful daughter and her concern for the rest of us in all of this.  What a girl!

The doctor came in and told us that she had a kidney stone (not yet passed) and two complex ovarian cysts.  Two more potent pain medications were administered and finally the pain dissipated enough where she was able to fall asleep.  They elected to keep her overnight for observation. I waited until they moved her to the fifth floor.  I kissed and hugged her goodnight.  Court walked me to my car and promised that he would stay with her til she fell asleep completely and would possibly stay all night.  Not bad for a guy who’s been dating my daughter (officially) for four days!

I would have loved to have stayed all night, but I have to get up in the morning and take Brittany to the oral surgeon to have all four wisdom teeth removed.  Never a dull moment… 🙂

Let's stay connected!

I promise to send some encouragement your way, and a bit of hope for the soul...

xo, jana
