A quick trip to the grocery store
That’s all, and nothing more
I got my vegies, fruit and milk
All I was looking for
I hurried to the candy aisle
To get my M & Ms
Should I get plain or peanut?
I wanted all of them
I chose to get the peanut ones
The special Halloween kind
I reached out for the biggest bag
Milk chocolate on my mind
But what I hadn’t realized
Was the one thing in the way
A large selection of Pez candy
Beside me on display
M & M’s safely in my hand
I tried to wiggle past
But as I brushed the Pez sign
I let out an “oh no!” gasp
As if in slowest motion
The display began to fall
Dispensers tumbling everywhere
And I stood there appalled
Some were little pumpkins
Some witches and ghosts
Skeletons and spiders
(I liked those the most!)
Embarrassed beyond measure
I stooped to clean the mess
Quietly mumbling to myself
“Who even likes these Pez?”
As I finished up retrieving
Pez and my self respect
I headed toward the counter
To get my groceries checked
“How are you today Mrs. Jarvis?
Did you find everything you need?”
I smiled and muttered, “That, and more!”
I payed and turned to leave.
Randall bagged my groceries
And offered his help to the car
I gladly took his offer
And he followed to where I’d parked
I confidently headed out
I was anxious to get home
But when I got to the parking spot
I let out another groan
I was at the wrong spot
With not a clue where I had parked
So Randall and I took the scenic route
I ignored his smart remarks
I had to laugh out loud
As I headed home today
One mishap, then another
Just another “JJ” day
There’s no moral to this story
But no matter what anyone says
I still don’t think it’s possible
That anyone really likes Pez!
